I'm very happy to hear you got your Amalgams removed. I had mine removed on Sept 30.
Iodine is definitely, positively, absolutely NOT a chelator of mercury. I learned this the hard way and this idea partly led to the loss of quite a few months of my life through waiting. Iodine has many benefits to the body, and if anything, supports your organs so that they excrete mercury faster than a person who is not iodine-saturated. But this chelation misconception is due to old posts in this forum and on the Y! group, and simply will not disappear.
Iodine is an anti-candida agent, and your die-off symptoms should accelerate.
Also if you are estrogen dominant, then you will probably have problems controlling your weight. Link below has some research on the Iodine affects on estrogen.
