Re: rectal albendazole

medical research does not support your theory

" Administration of macrogol suppositories did not result in measurable plasma concentrations of albendazole sulfoxide."

albendazole is dependent on fat for absorption and even at best only 5% absorbed during intestinal transit. Colon absorbs mostly only water and albendazole is not water soluble, therefore not absorbed in the colon. Albendazole may have some action locally (i.e. on contact in colo-rectal region) with rectal administration, but not systemically. I believe some of these principles are discussed at length on this forum. There is no data or research to support the idea that albendazole is adequately absorbed rectally, unlike Ivermectin or thiabendazole. Even for ivermectin however, rectal absorption is not optimal nor consistent as it is also not particularly water soluble while thiabendazole is which is why rectal administration is usually reserved for salvage therapy only. This is not wild speculation, but basic pharmacology.

best luck in your pursuit
