Actually, i think that both HSV and HPV can be triggered by a third factor (stress, etc). Remember that cold sores also appear for "unknown reasons". and not the hsv cause the hpv to manifest

so, it may be something like:
(unknown factor) > low immunity > virus causes hyperkeratosis
