I would say our understanding of this is limited. I would like to argue that copper oxidation is far more important for this than the so called Sodium-Potassium ratio.
We believe from Copper toxicity issues that MSM will create a bond with copper in cells. This is what was seen as an oxygen boost in the book "Flood your Body with Oxygen"
I am also pretty sure that Salt does not displace Potassium in cells. Actually I would like to argue that the need for Salt is so much higher because it helps to clear cellular toxins via this electrochemical interaction.
