a zen monk once ran unexpectedly into the kitchen of a lady he knew and made terrible loud noises and hit her with a light bamboo swatch, shocking her and then he did same to her son, shocking him, then the monk ran away without saying a word.
a few weeks later the monk called on the lady to see how she and her son were doing. they told him they were fine except for the night that very monk ran into thier thier kitchens making a big noise scaring them and hitting them and running away in such a bizarre and startling upsetting manner.
The monk explained he had seen evil spirits surrounding the lady and her son, and he had forseen that these evil spirits were going to do terrible harm to the lady and her son, so the monk, having spiritual perception and understanding of these things, himself shocked, startled, alarmed and upset the lady and her son to avert the evil spirits bad plan that they set in motion and to absorb and cancel out the bad disaster these malignant spirits had planned, set in motion, for the lady and her son.
The zen monk ran interference, averted the evil intention and the worse danger was averted, absorbed and canceled out by the zen monks 'seemingly' unusual actions.
Another way to say it is, All things work for good to them that love God.
