Re: I honestly don't know what to do.
Hi! Where is the smell coming from? What are all of your symptoms? Thing is, some people have FBO coming from their skin (and/or urine, saliva etc) and some people have the odor coming from their rectal area (which could be because of a problem with leaky gas- you don't feel it passing most of the time and when you do you can't stop it from passing- AND/OR a structural issue- such as rectal prolapse, anal fissure, and perhaps even hemorrhoids).
And about the family not smelling you thing- it happens to me too! Though my parents and sister swear they don't smell a thing, strangers have said rude things to me/about me about my odor. The MEBO website has several theories on this, namely acclimatization of the nose to the odor or perhaps that carriers of a gene causing a metabolic disorder are unable to smell the odor. ANYWAY: your problem could be caused by a number of issues combined. I would recommend going to a gastroenterologist and getting tested for parasites, H. Pylori, SIBO, IBD (Crohns and Celiacs), malabsorption issues, and structural issues such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and prolapses (In these cases I think it's more likely the odor would be coming from your bottom). If the odor is coming from your skin it might be conditions like leaky gut or TMAU. Of course, there are many conditions that I am completely unaware of or have forgotten to list. I haven't done much research on candida overgrowth, but it is also a possible cause of odor. See mytummytantrum.com, a blog of a candida sufferer who cured his Body Odor
for more information on that.
Diet is often found to be a pretty important factor, so I think you're taking a step in the right direction. However, what you should be eating really can vary depending on what problem/illness you have, so I still think getting tested is an important step.
