There is nothing wrong with the time honored profession of shepard. So go, things will work out, and you will be glad to have spent time with your family and friends. I think that all of us are descendants of people who 'just went', and lived to tell about it. Or had a great story of 'how dumb I was to do that' to tell your grandchildren.
