For an expectorant is it better to spread doses every few hours or divided into two doses a day?

I'm just under 3 grams and my nose has been more runny and sometimes my swollen gland (swollen since before iodine) is sometimes slightly tender but I haven't experienced the expectorant quality others have talked about yet.
