Well when I had this condition, dating was an issue for me...however I noticed that as long as they knew about the problem they usually didn't have an issue with it. I was sure to inform them that it wasn't contagious or anything and that usually put them at ease. However I didn't try kissing them when I had huge crust on my lips. I do remember one time my friend and I were both really drunk and we kissed, and he wasn't worried about it even after he was sober (might I add this guy was also "straight") which itself is very difficult to encounter even for a person with normal lips, so might I say anything is possible while you have this condition.
I never went on dates with people I didn't already know from someone else...so meeting people online was not an option for me, not saying it can't be an option for you, but it was just easier for me to be around people who were friends of friends that I could talk normally with.
As for eating, avoid any food that can stain dead skin. Like sauces, wine, etc. and drink through a straw.
It is possible and it can be done. You just HAVE to have confidence.
