Baking soda doesn't destroy Vitamin C, and if it does, Tony should provide evidence that it does.
In fact, sodium bicarbonate helps one RETAIN Vitamin C.
"In two normal young adults the rate of urinary excretion of ascorbic acid, during controlled conditions of vitamin C [ascorbic acid] depletion and saturation, was consistently lower during periods of administration of NaHCO3 to produce an alkaline urine, than when NH4C1 was given to produce an acid urine.'
Sodium bicarbonate lowered the excretion of vitamin C in the urine, it didn't increase it.
