Road Kill

So, 1979 I am hitch-hiking. I get a ride from two guys in a 1928 Mercedes replica, they are old retired guys just coming from the race track, and on their way to a bar, they pick me up. We drive and drive until we are in the middle of the country on a highway between two cities, each about 40,000 people separated by 40 miles. Then we pull into a dive bar honky-tonk type of place. They go inside, and I continue hitch-hiking. Half an hour later, they come out and drive into the horizon.

I keep hitch-hiking, no luck, for like an hour and a half, hardly any cars going by. Then, a blue malibu with out of state license plates passes, and throws a banana peel at me. Not knowing any better, I flip the guy "the bird"

He turns around, passes me and goes a quarter mile, then turns around again to make another pass at me. But, in front of him, a green ElCamino is coming, and it stops to pick me up. As I'm getting in the ElCamino, the Malibu passes. I look at the driver of the mailbu as I'm getting in the ElCamino, and he's waving a huge pistol in his hand. The ElCamino had a little plastic statue of Jesus glued in the middle of the top of the dashboard.

hmmm, makes me wonder, b/c is was the middle of nowhere with nobody around and very very little traffic. I was almost road kill maybe. Saved by the Jesus dude in the ElCamino.
