Re: I am an alcoholic
This will be very tough for you, there is no use in
Sugar coating it. About five months ago, i realised i had a problem with alcohol and quit cold turkey for 2.5 months. The first three weeks were VERY VERY hard, but the main thing that got me through was that i set a definite goal. I knew the day in my mind when i would allow myself to have a drink again and it made everything much easier... as someone alluded earlier on the thread, don't tell yourself that you can NEVER have another drink again - this could set you up for failure.
When my day finally came, i had no interest in having a drink at all but had one to reward myself for all the hard work. I took a picture of the beer actualy, which sort of is an indicator that it was a bigger deal than it should have been.
Now, two months or so later i am on the eve of my tenth day of the Master Cleanse. Alcohol was never on my mind, but eating definitely was! So, what i would offer as advice:
- do a liver cleanse before you start.
- set a definite and realistic goal for yourself: a specific date on your calendar.
- you may want to consider stopping drinking for a week before you start the MC. Buy a bunch of books / DVDs or only hang out in places they don't serve alcohol, with friends who understand what you are doing.
- make sure you have a support system in place (this forum is a great place to start, but you should have a friend to talk to in person as well) Maybe ask a close friend to help you, or someone else who you trust who lives a healthy lifestyle. Ask them to read the book or at least to look some info up online.
- if you feel like cheating/quitting (we all do at some point) make some lemonade, sit on the floor and do breathing exercises, or take an
Epsom Salt bath with some aromatherapy oils. This got me through some of the hardest times on this cleanse.
- if you make a mistake and cave in, do not beat yourself up about it. Wake up the next day, and try again! YOU WILL SUCCEED! Do not blame yourself if you cheat... it will only make everything worse. Having said that, drinking alcohol in the middle of this cleanse would be very very dangerous from what i understand.
I am certainly very far from being an expert, but those are a few points based on my past struggles with alcohol and my experience with the MC. Keep on this forum for support / inspiration... to be honest, i might have quit without it.
God Bless. sd
