My point was mainly that all the water in that food was diluting the acid!

Maybe too your stomach would produce less acid on a carby-reach meal, but I believe that someone with a low stomach acid problem ALWAYS has not enough stomach acid and would benefits from taking a Betaine HCl supplement troughout the day, increasing the dose at meals.
