I don't mean to scare you; but you could be having a miscarriage. I have read that most women have several miscarriages and just don't know it. I personally had this experience...missed period(s) and then a period that was heavy and seemed to go on forever. After feeling very light headed and nearly passing out I was taken to the hospital; they did a pregnancy test--ran my HCG levels, and I was pregnant...then almost a week later they ran my levels again, and sure enough, the HCG levels were lower which signified that I had lost the baby (levels will only climb if still pregnant). At that point you let nature take it's coarse and finish passing the baby.
I would attribute your first year of problems to the birth control as that stuff is poison and can mess you up for a long time after. But, this latest problem seems like it may be a miscarraige. You may want to get this checked out. I would not suggest taking the advice of the doctor (can't be trusted) as far as having any "procedures" done; but you should at least have the test done and get your HCG levels run. Good luck!
