My diet is sorta vegetarian except for eggs, and turkey for the cartilge and bones. A strict vegetarian diet causes me to lose too much weight and my brain doesn't function well.
I focus on "amino acids" instead of "protein", just like it's not the fat but what kind of fat, and it's not the carbs but what kind of carbs, it's not the Sugar but what kind of sugar... what aminos are you getting? Vegetarian protein is less usable and what aminos it does have is less usable by the body.
Whey has good aminos but I don't consume dairy.
Egg is the best source of protein on the planet, in terms of complete amino acid profile and usability by the body. I take 100% egg protein powder or chug a bottle of Egg Beaters when I can't cook. Egg yolk has lots of aminos like the white does so I chug raw whole pasteurized eggs Rocky style sometimes, and sometimes I just cook the eggs in a non-teflon pan. Any powder or cooked eggs will have the avidin neutralized so you won't have to worry about developing a biotin deficiency. I cycle my egg protein sources and take a biotin supplement so I'm not worried about biotin.
