The first thing that comes to mind is that you retain water when you burn muscle tissue for energy because of a lack of glucose from food. The solution according to my source however is not to eat more protein foods in particular, but mainly to avoid running completely on empty so you won't have to burn muscle, so to eat some food in general (just eat what you can burn right away... you won't gain weight from a 150-200 calorie meal cause you will burn that up right away, only if you eat meals of over 250-300 calories all the time you will gain weight cause you won't use all of it.) You're not eating enough. I don't know that much about you or your situation and I'm not a doctor... but make sure you get some potassium in there... even from a pill I don't care how (but from fresh fruits or other foods would be much better)...
What other symptoms do you have?
I have done 'well' on 400-550 calories a day with lots of exercise, but even that is like eating nothing really. I would eat 5 tiny meals a day, mainly to try to keep my metabolism from completely shutting down (eating nothing will shut down your metabolism and make you store anything you eat as fat).
Your body burns up about 1250 calories a day even just for bodily functions. You CAN eat more and not gain weight if you ONLY eat small meals and wait for your stomach to be empty before eating the next meal. You also have to drink a lot of water.
People only gain weight because they eat meals that are too big. One could be more 'fat' from eating one 600- calorie meal a day, than from SIX 200 calorie meals in one day, evenly spread out over the day... in the first case, you will burn 200-300 calories right away untill you blood Sugar drops again, and the other 300-400 calories are stored. Yes, the rest of the day your stomach will be empty but you will burn mainly muscle tissue for energy, not fat, and burning muscle makes you retain water... (yep I've been there too) In the second case, you will never store any fat, cause every 4 or so hours your body uses up 200 calories (at least), so everything you eat is actually used/ burned directly and not stored. You shouldn't eat foods that spike your blood Sugar too much, for this to work however.

Hormone imbalances can cause water retention, for example excess estrogen (a common problem for females in industrialized countries) or not enough progesteron. THIS MAY NOT BE YOUR MAIN ISSUE THOUGH BUT IT CAN BE SOMETHING TO LOOK INTO...
AVOID ANY SALT (AS IS ALSO EXPLAINED IN THE FREEACNEBOOK). You want your potassium/ sodium balance to be good (more potassium than sodium). If you don't eat much at all, you won't have enough potassium. It is very easy though to ingest salt, even when spitting out foods. Believe me I know. High sodium and low potassium sounds like a deadly combo to me............ However if you are truly dehydrated, you may also need sodium to save your life, but you have to look into this issue.. I am afraid to advise you on this, cause I really don't know what is the best thing for you at this moment. Normally, salt is best to be avoided since it causes temporary water retention, but in a life threatening situation it may or may not be valuable (???)
Do you drink enough water? Do you urinate only a little? Do you eat a lot of salt? What do you eat?
DRINK PLENTY OF QUALITY WATER (HALF YOUR WEIGHT IN FL OZ.), BUT SPREAD IT OUT OVER THE COURSE OF A DAY. IF YOU HAVE TOXINS TO DEAL WITH (WHO DOESN'T), THIS WILL HELP FLUSH OUT THE TOXINS. DEHYDRATION DEFINATELY CAUSES WATER RETENTION AND THE WAY TO SOLVE IT IS TO DRINK ALL DAY LONG!
FOR ANOREXICS THAT VOMIT, THEY CAN HAVE FACE PUFFINESS DUE TO VOMITING. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER YOU VOMIT OR NOT.
