You won't get "phantom pain" with laparoscopic cholecystectomy since the nerves to the abdominal wall are cut. Speak to people who have had it done, they can reassure you. Diarrhoea is not a significant problem - rarely some people have increased bowel movements. The surgery will prevent you having the complications of Gallstones - pancreatitis, empyema etc
