Re: Paralyzed intestines - scariest thing yet

I ended up in the ER with constipation so bad I though i was dying. I had no bowel movemetn for 7 days, despite being on Ex Lax, and the doctors didn't seem to see why I was so upset to be doubled over. Well, I couldn't poop, and I was in eye-popping pain! The ER doctor did not explain the pain, but told me I was OK, according to all their tests. I could barele walk or talk I was in so much pain. He did prescribe magnesium citrate, which you can get over the counter at a pharmacy. That's how I know the pain was constipation. I guess he didn't want to say, "welp, I guess I prescribed you something that made ya sick, der."
When I went off the painkillers and on an anti-inflammatory diet, the constipation problem subsided. The doctors are too stupid to tell you that painkillers can create a severe constipation problem that can actually lead to impaction so bad you need surgery. Maybe they just don't see the connection, or it's rare.
Is it any wonder that one of the largest causes of death in the country is prescription pharmaceuticals? Constipation surgery certainly is not on the drug's symptoms list, although it does warn about constipation. Doctors are dufuses who don't know what to do about you when tehir protocol doesn't help you. I had to see a GI specialist weeks later who told me constipation pain can be excruciating. He acted like everyone should know and it's so rare, I shouldn't worry about it. I was still in pain when I saw him. He documented low bowel motility with an endoscopy, and didn't seem to see why I was so upset. The last thing I needed was painkillers for my low bowel motility but that's OK by them. They didn't feel a thing.
