Has anyone here had surgery for acalculous cholecystitis?

Hello. Two ultrasounds and a HIDA scan say I do not have gallstones, but I know that that is not always the truth. I have a relative who had THREE "normal ultrasounds" saying she had no stones and that her GB looked "normal"---she finally had a massive attack one night and had to have emergency surgery and her GB was so diseased, it was full of pus (empyema) and the doctor said it was "rotten"! Sorry to be so graphic, but you just wonder how these things can happen!!!! It was do infected, she had to have a drain in there and spent 3 days in the hospital on massive IV Antibiotics and with loads of drainage from teh gallbladder.

3 months later, she feels much better than before, and eats what she wants!

Just wondering what anyone here's experience might be if they had acalculous cholecystitis and went ahead and had surgery---were you BETTER, WORSE OR NO CHANGE? I read that the people with no stones are more "iffy" as to whether they have no more pain after the cholecystectomy---but then the options are surgery (risky and possibly life-changing)---or flushing---(yuck) or live with the pain (hard to think about)

Please reply quickly as I need to make a decision about this next week.....thank you.
