There is controversy about fats. Alot recently. That your body needs fats to function is obvious. Saturated fat theories have come and gone.
The claim that saturated fat consumption has increased this century. This claim is not really backed up by any Science or common sense. However the consumption of transfats, and hydrogenated fats. All the bad stuff attributed to saturated fats are far more likely caused by these fats - particulary the man made ones.
