You may be able to deal with the root causes of the dreams as suggested by previous posters above.
I just want to add my two cents about a possible reason why you are having problems in getting the tasks done. I think that sometimes the problem is that your body wants to move (ie. moving the vacuum cleaner back and forth), but since you are sleeping and your body is somewhat paralyzed, you find it difficult to get anything done. When you dream, it's believed that chemicals meant to keep your body from moving during sleep, protecting your body from damage of movement when you are not concious, are released. If you feel like this is true (your movement is constrained), your body is probably fighting against itself. One part wants to move, the other part has your limbs on 'lock-down.'
I agree that you should try to get yourself into a calmer, more relaxed state before bed. Perhaps the mantras suggested or some other type of meditation will help you put aside your NEED for neatness. If all else fails, perhaps you could get everything straightened out earlier in the day and let the last two or so hours before sleep be left for relaxation and preparation for sleep.
