The parents should have said, "Thankyou, we didn't realize how stupid we are and for not paying attention to normal cleaning." But, of course the "evidence " was gone, plus they were embarassed...so lets blame it on the teacher. " They could have taken the teacher out to dinner for doing whats right.
Same situation today...call the parents or the school nurse or 911, but whatever you do, don't touch him....
