Re: Astanga

Hi Janaki!

What a good mini lecture!

To be honest all we practice in west should be called “ashtanga hatha yoga” and this is total missunerstanding to take ashtanga for vigorous dynamic style of asana practice. Also we have a way too many aerobics instructors calling themselves “ashtanga yoga teachers” after picking up some “yoga” moves. I think people should stay away from those. Only after mastering asanas one can connect them into a sequence even with jumping.

After some time practitioner can apply yoga style to gim workouts It starts from feeling quality of breath and quality of movement, so iron pumping sessions could be beneficial for yoga practice as well. I have done a few things to help me with mayurasana or lolasana for example.

I found one good yoga site in Russian/English version:

http://yoga.com.ua/lappa/

I think there is some good information for everyone with all levels of practice.

Good to hear back from you

J
