You may want to look into pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. My mother has a hernia, for which she required surgery, but tried the PEMF and is able to lift, and stay physically active. She is not going for surgery now.

Also, I had a c-section 2 years ago and when I tried the PEMF, I experienced a dull ache around the incision area. I was told that this was scar tissue healing. After a couple of weeks of use of the PEMF the dull ache went away.

The product we used was the Quantron Resonance System. It is expensive, if money is an issue, you may want to consider Beck's magnetic pulser. I have no experience with Beck's but there is a forum on this site dedicated to it.
