The enema protocol I've followed is to stand on all fours (with bum highest) while inserting the water. Then, remove the tube, and straight away come into the shoulderstand (yoga posture) for 1 minute, then lie on my back with knees up for 5 minutes, then lie on RIGHT side for 10 minutes. The idea is that you want to get the water as deep into the large intestine as possible. Look at a diagram of the colon and you'll understand why. This has worked pretty well for me. Sometimes it feels uncomfortable to lie on my back or difficult to hold the water, in this case I move sooner onto my right side and am able to hold longer without discomfort.
