Re: Gallstones

Gallactic,
I would bet that your doctor will recommend surgery.. They typically do.. I would recommend that you ask to see the ultrasound results.. Ask for them to explain the location & size of stones. Ask whether any are 'lodged' or blocking the ducts. If there is no blockage, then you can typically try the flushing approach before deciding to have surgery.

I just had surgery a week ago, because I had a $.25 gumball-sized stone lodged in my gallbladder duct that was preventing any bile from getting into my gallbladder. I didn't have much choice. The sad thing was that they said my gallbladder was a bit irritated, but healthy. No thickening or scarring.

I did get one flush in before then, and I got out about 115 rubbery green stones. It's definitely the way to go. I'm not one for pulling out organs just because of a small malfunction..

I will say that if you do end up needing the surgery, after 1 week I'm almost fully recovered.. a bit of pain still at the incision sites, but my appetite is great, and I can eat anything without pain! I'm keeping my fingers crossed, though, because I've read alot of stories of people with problems following surgery..
good luck to you,
LaurenK
