I'm not sure what your personal experience has been with these, but Qinoa, Amaranth, Buckwheat and wildrice are not actually grains and may be good alternative to people seeking a grain free diet. Buckwheat pancakes and breads are great and as a bounus my natropath mentioned they can't grow buckwheat with pestacides etc because it doesnt respond well. Qinoa works well as a porrige while I have puffed amaranth with on its own as a cereal.
"quinoa is an amino acid-rich (protein) seed... Most commonly considered a grain, quinoa is actually a relative of leafy green vegetables like spinach and Swiss chard"
"Amaranth, also called Chinese Spinach, are bushy, green-colored plants some of which have leaves that can be eaten and taste similar to spinach, and some of which produce seeds that can be used as a grain"
"The scientific truth is buckwheat is not a wheat but a fruit... Each Buckwheat particle is a triangular seed"
"wild rice is not rice at all but a grass... Wild rice is really an annual aquatic seed Zizania aquatica "
