"This guy drew all kinds of self-serving conclusions from texts that had absolutely nothing to do with a woman having an abortion."
I happened not to agree with all his inferences, but why does having a different opinion or interpretation warrant the label "liar".
"God made humans in His own image. Why in the world would He smile on the destruction of this image?"
Why did he destroy Job's family? Why did he destroy everyone in the flood, except Noah's family? (You REALLY believe EVERYONE in the world was evil? But then how about the animals?)
I brought up the verse in Exodus a while back on this forum and have brought it up elsewhere, but have never received a response from an anti-abortionist:
"And if men struggle and strike a woman with child so that she has a miscarriage, yet there is no further injury, he shall be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide. But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise."
It gets translated various ways. Admittedly, the original Hebrew is ambiguous about whether a miscarriage occurs with the initial injury. If it didn't, however, there seems little point in including the verse because it doesn't cover anything that hasn't been mentioned elsewhere. It is the one place in the books of laws that mentions a fetus and it is not equating the loss the a fetus with the loss of a human being. It is not calling for an eye for and eye; a tooth for a tooth. There is nothing twisted and self-serving about it!
If the Bible is the word of God; the Bible is the word of God. If one is going to pick and choice what parts of the Bible are the word of God, then the Bible isn't the word of God.
