very tight tendons on hand

Hi MH and all,

One of my ceramics teachers is a master potter and has been throwing pots on the wheel for many years. In both his hands I think, he has what appears to be VERY knotted tendons or muscles. He says it is very painful and restricts movement to some extent. He is not one to go down the fasting and purification path, but is there some salve or compress, or massage technique he can use to un-do these HUGE knots! They are visible in the palms of his hands about an inch below the base of the ring finger on the palm. The flash looks rock solid and bunched up with the tendons or muscles underneath. It looks very painful.

Any ideas?? I am going to give him a Chinese herbal liquid to put on it, but I thought you may have some better ideas. He actually asked me to help him out, which I was surprised by so it must be bad!
