Dog Howls & Sings when kids cry?? is this weird

Hello everyone I have a question

My dog lieks to Howl when he hears my kids crying. well I would actually call it almost like singing because its non stop.

he does this everyytime they cry and I go Bonkers! imagine 2 kids crying and a dog howling non stop, and he is a big dog and its so loud sometimes i worry that my neighbors will hear this, we want to move into a gated community and am going crazy because even when he is out in the yard and he hears one crying he does this, sometimes I have to run to him and shut him up before running to the kids, that how iritaing it is, anyway know why he is doing this? is this common in dogs? or is my dog just crazy??
