It may take a long time, but with persistence they should eventually get along. It took a year for a friend of mine in the same situation. You may want to try putting a cloth with the scent of the kitten under the bowl where the older cat eats, so that cat is forced to get used to the smell of the kitten. Do this over and over. This may help the older cat to associate "good" with the kitten. Or separate them in different rooms and then rotate them so they get used the smell of each other. Just keep watching the kitten so it doesn't get hurt by the older cat.
