Re: Essential Oils

Hi Tracy....I use Essential oils extensively and I have even begun selling some of my products...but I buy them in MUCH smaller quantities. 16 OUNCES? WOW!! That should last you years, lol.

The thing about essential oils is, you use them by the DROP. More is not better. If you are mixing with a carrier oil, my basic rule of thumb is 10 drops total (of all eo's combined) to a tablespoon of carrier oil. Sometimes I go more if I'm using it for a bath oil because the oils get further dispersed in the bathwater. Some oils you may even need less. For instance, Patchouli. More is DEFINITELY not better. Patchouli is probably my all time favorite scent, but wear too much of it...and people smell ya coming, lol.

I buy the majority of my oils from Aromaland.com. They are mid-priced, but definitely good quality. Some others I have gotten other places aren't quite as good, but suit their purpose if you are not buying them for therapeutic reasons, ie purely for scent. I usually get them in 10 ml bottles, but since I have started making and selling products of my own, I buy some of them in greater quantities...usually the lavender and sweet orange since I use them more extensively.

Right now, I only have a small bottle of Rose oil. I find it to be way too expensive to use, although it's benefits are wonderful...I just cannot afford it. You may even see it listed as well over $100 for just 10 ml of it.

You might find it worth you while to get a good book on essential oils. The one that I would recommend is Aromatherapy Blends and Remedies by Franzesca Watson. It has alot of in depth descriptions of oils including where they are from, what parts of the plants used, and the different benefits of each oil. She also gives lots and lots of different recipes for each oil.
