Re: Received my lugols.
Good questions/concern! :)
People were prescribed
Lugol's Solution for decades before there even was such a thing as a Selenium supplemnt OR Vitamin C. As far as I have researched, none of them ever came to any harm.
My understanding? Selenium is necessary for thyroid health, and so is iodine; most of us are deficient in both - hence we supplement Selenium.
Vitamin C serves two purposes. For those unusual/rare cases that the researching physicians had (Dr. Brownstein, Flechas, et al), Vitamin C corrected the mechanism that was causing the
Iodine to not be absorbed. Also, Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant and assists the body to clean out free radicals. When our body is going to be releasing large amounts of toxins (bromine, fluoride, chloride and heavy metals), it is a good idea to utilize Vitamin C to assist the body in dealing with the toxins.
A lot of us have found, that the amount of toxins that are released are in direct proportion to the amount of
Iodine taken to release them. If that turns out to be a 'true truth', then starting with a drop a day until you get your supplements in doesn't seem like it should cause you any problems.
If it were me and I thought/knew my body was deficient in
Iodine (like I knew it was/is), I would worry more about making sure I got the iodine 'in' than any other thing.
I have been 'iodining' since 2/20/07 (in dosages from 0-100 mg daily). I usually utilize the salt, I eat brazil nuts on & off for selenium, I always try to remember to take 2000-5000mg of Vitamin C daily anyway, and I don't supplement with magnesium. I am NOT recommending what I do, but I would like to say that I (and my husband) have experienced VAST benefits from the iodine, and we have absolutely no reason to believe that not consistently taking all the other supplements has caused us any harm.
'Hope that gives you more information to utilize and make a decision that makes you comfortable :)
