I had posted a few months ago, when I first started training for the Canadian Death Race in August. I'm in very good shape now and am eating very well.
It was recommended to me by "Finally faith" to try chia seed gel (chia seeds soaked in water). It has worked wonders and gives me a very noticeable sustenance of energy during a long run (15km). Astragalus and Rhodiola and Maca have helped greatly too. I sometimes mix these ingredients with the Chia Gel right before a run and it consistently gives me better times.
What I'm worried about, though, is that I'm not getting enough carbs in my diet. Until a month ago I had been eating mostly a vegetarian diet, but have lately switched to lots of organic grass fed lean meats, and tons of vegetables, mostly raw. For some reason though, I'm not craving carbs, but from everything I've read, I need to carb-load before long races. I have yet to run the 38km death race, but I'm fearing I'll burn out due to lack of stored glycogen from carbs. What would be the healthiest carbs to add to my diet? I'm looking to stay natural (ie. no bread, pasta). Would sweet potatoes be a good choice?
