How does one get infested w/ Parasites??

I understand it is very easy to pick up parasites from the environment, but was curious as to how many people on the board have gotten parasites & worms but NOT traveled outside the US?

I have never traveled outside the US and have read that many people who have do indeed pick up parasites, but was curious as to how many of you have parasites & worms NOT traveled.

I ask this because I have done cleanses and never have seen any parasties. I know that some are microscopic but not things such as flukes, worms etc.

I wish they had a good test for detecting parasites and worms, and unfortunately, most Drs do not look for these nor do they test for them. Plus, I have read they are hard to detect in the first place.

It is strange though that we deworm animals but not people.
