Sorry to hear about that, but MH is mistaken, as most everybody knows Iodine is not a metal at all. He might benefit from at least a brief look at a high school chemistry text to learn the differences between metals and non-metals.

In general, metals tend to lose electrons in their surroundings and in the process become positively-charged ions. Metals are represented by the alkalis, alkalin earths, transition series of elements, as well as lanthanides and actinides.

Iodine on the other hand is in the halogen family, and halogens prefer to accept an electron to become a negatively-charged Iodide ion.


If I were to come across an article that asserts Iodine as being a "heavy metal", I would stop reading it. That is unless I WANTED to read more Science fiction.
