All of the posts above me are awesome. Especially the one right above. I think this is exactly what we need to do.. view this condition scientifically, as doctors or researchers would, and we can figure this thing out ourselves. I know some of you have been doing this for a while, and it will pay off one day I hope.
Someone asked about antifungals experience. A few months ago I was at my lowest point of EC (although it just started about 5 months ago), and then I took some antifungals orally and swallowed them and also took them topically. It definitely helped me out actually, as the white stuff that came with water went away! But, the lips continued to peel colorless skin, not white or yellow as I have seen in many. Just colorless skin.
If I were to guess what is going on, I would say it is one of two things. It is either a deep fungal infection like you said, which I kind of doubt, but everyone has always suspected candida and never came to a conclusion, so maybe. Or, I think it is more likely that an allergen or some sort of irritant is causing the lips to swell up and peel, and people picking off their lips too early and smearing creams on them makes them prone to infection. The reason I support this theory more is that my lips have peeled absolutely colorless normal skin at some points, after I took antifungals and even more lately when I just left my lips alone (I stopped using balms obviously). As I said before, some of the ideas in the post above me are really good too, and they are all possibilities. It's so hard to rule anything out because everyone is so different, like the people who took accutane and this happened. Wtf happened there?
Also, another huge thing, which I have said.. I tested positive for celiac disease! My symptoms came out of nowhere along with EC, as if something triggered them like a virus or stress. I never ever would have guessed celiac, but my parents forced me to go to their doctor and he is a great doctor and had the test done which took over a week to hear back. I know everyone is different and clearly you all don't have celiac disease, but it is something to look into if you have any weird problems I guess. maybe it is the cause of my particular case of swollen/peeling lips, and this explains my second theory.
Actually screw it, even if you don't have weird problems, you should take a look into celiac. Most adults with celiac don't even have digestive symptoms, they just are making these antibodies which do weird things to their body like attack their small intestines and cause rashes and stuff and over 200 symptoms they say. And it takes months or even up to 2 years of going gluten free for the antibodies to stop attacking. Just take a look into it I guess, it can't hurt.
My endoscopy is Wednesday to confirm the positive antibody blood tests, and then I can finally go gluten free and I'm going to try go organic too and see if I can get my life back together! I will keep updating on how things go in the future.
