I believe the Iodine doctors state the body needs 1.5 grams of iodine, perhaps more if you are a large person. To treat Iodine deficiency, and in particular FBD, they recommend taking 50 mg/day of Lugol's/Iodoral for 90 days. This comes to 4.5 grams of iodine/iodide. So taking 4.5 grams of Iodine will mean 1.5 grams will be absorbed, the rest flushed out. Does this sound right?

Okay then my question is: how does taking 100 mg or (much) more for a long period (years) provide value to the body? Based on the above calculation these people should be pretty well saturated with iodine early on. Wouldn't all this excess iodine just get flushed out? Other than offering strong anti-microbial (even anti-cancer) benefit I just don't understand *why* people claim positive results from so much iodine when the stuff isn't being absorbed by the body.

Please don't take my question in a negative fashion; I don't disbelieve people when they provide personal testimonials. But I simply don't understand how this can happen.
