I have read multiple cases of lasers being used for EC. Im unsure about this process but it could be worth a shot. I would suggest going for Vaseline original 100% petroleum. This is also what I’m doing at the moment after being suggested it by a dermatologist. P.S. - Exfoliative Cheilitis is a lot like calluses. Once you get a callus, if you use tramua and are too agressive with trying to remove it, the callus comes back... Epaderm is a very thick cream used for dry skin, often for eczema and psoriasis. My doctor prescribed it to me many years ago in attempt to help with this condition. It is a LOT thicker than aquapor, so it’s not really meant to replace them as a lip balm. I never used vaseline to invoke a peeling cycle because it just wasn’t good enough at that for me. Regardless of the state of my build up, epaderm before bed guaranteed that the skin would slide off without fuss in the morning. I recommend it if that is what you want. I preferred when they built up because it was easier to manage. All I had to do when put vaseline on and the dead skin would come off easily. Now, they’re still very much as dry as before, but I can’t really get the skin off with vaseline. As someone who has dealt with EC for a decade and stalked this forum for about the same, I would advise everyone to find a managing technique that works for them. You’re only going to depress yourself by putting a tremendous amount of effort to try and cure what I believe is essentially incurable. And even if someone says they’ve happened to be cured, there almost certainly isn’t a universal cure. Epaderm is my go-to if I want to force a lip peel. Slather it on before bed, wake up the next morning and the skin slides right off. For a more gradual/gentle lip peeling cycle I stick to aquaphor. Using this consistently means that the build up never becomes enough of an issue to bother me.   [End]

Aquaphor doesn’t even moisturize, smoothen, or soften the lips short term or long term. Most lip balms/ointments are occlusive and they never deeply penetrate the skin to fully repair of reverse the chronic dryness and scaling. They just sit on top of the surface and provide an external barrier. I totally know how you feel about feeling like you’re looked at as an inconvenience by doctors. I’m so sick of being treated like because this isn’t fatal it isn’t worthy of being taken seriously. OP, do you think there’s a hormonal correlation with chronic chapped lips? I’m a 21 y/o female and I’ve been thinking about this because estrogen and progesterone are like natural anti agers in our skin and is generally what increases the natural hyaluronic acid in our skin/lips; leading to the natural hydrated, smooth, supple, & elastic texture. In the past I wrote about a vitamin A absorption issue I found after I took a specialty vitamin absorption blood test. blood test. The only vitamin I wasn’t absorbing at all was vitamin A. I had no explanation why, but I figured it was related to celiac disease. Another Update: While the Methylcobalamin increases my heart rate too much (it might just be due to Niacin in the B Complex), the Hydroxocobalamin/Adenosylcobalamin increases my blood pressure too much (the dosage was much hugher at 2000 mcg istead of 500 mcg in the Methylcobalamin. The side effects of Hydroxocobalamin/Adenosylcobalamin can either be high or low blood pressure. It might be due to either my MTHFR or COMT gene mutations, too. The site I used to find my MTHFR and COMT gene mutations doesn’t break down the information like it used to. From memory, I remembered MTHFR and COMT mutations showing up. However, I have the COMT double allele mutations while a relative has the MTHFR double allele mutations. I only have one allele mutation instead of double allele mutations for the MTHFR mutation. The original DNA defect I found was with Tcn1 gene, which binds with femtomolar affinity and protects it from the acidic environment of the stomach. This is a strong red flag in my DNA with a rare frequency rate of 0%. Hence, there’s likely an issue with B12 not surviving the acidity of my stomach. Maybe B12 shots would help with this issue. No, I’m not taking the Innate brand. IT NEEDS TO BE THE METHYLATED FORM. It’s between Emerald Coenzymated B-Healthy or Igennus Super B Complex. I’m trying to figure out which one works best...perhaps Igennus Super B Complex due to less Niacin and less ingredients. Keep in mind that while you have a deficiency you need to rely on the B vitamin on a daily basis until your level is normal. I guess my body got used to the Niacin since my heart isn’t racing as much, but I’d prefer no Niacin in the B complex. Even if it’s contradictory that I can’t take the same supplement with MTHFR and COMT genetic defects, it’s working for me anyway. In the beginning, I bought several bottles of coenzyme B complex brands to see which one worked best. Each brand is formulated a little different. Weird. My dermatologist has suggested narrow band UV light therapy. They noted a couple people with this condition having success, so it would be worth a try. A few times a week for no more than 3 minutes. They do have this available in office. My insurance does not cover for this condition. They told me I could try this on my own as long the device was FDA approved & Narrow band UV. Other types of UV light are dangerous. I have only just gotten it in the mail. I hope it helps.   [End]

Read this article. I have both the MTHFR and COMT genetic defects which might be related to my B12 absorption genetic defect. It’s contradictory how you’re not supposed to take a particular vitamin for MTHFR if you have COMT and vice versa. Maybe I could message the author of this article. Hey, Update on my situation, been about 5 years since I used to post on here regularly , In my final year of Uni and the last 5 years have been on and off hell. Tried every method under the sun, Considered lip reduction surgery ( didn’t go through with it but might If my current method doesn’t work). Here’s vitamin deficiences that can cheilitis: B2, B9, B12, scurvy (vitamin C), iron deficiency, or zinc deficiency Sice there’s 3 vitamin Bs listed, a vitamin B complex could cover them all if you’re not sure if you have one or the other. UPDATE: I switched from a coenzyme B Complex vitamin to a coenzyme B12 (without the other B vitamins because the Niacin or B3 was causing a fast heart rate. I want to add that I tried regular B12 vitamins in the past for a short period of time due to side effects. I probably had side effects because I wasn’t absorbing it well, and it didn’t improve my lips. I wasn’t taking a regular B12 vitamin whenever I had my B12 blood test. I also didn’t think it was important for me to take B12 because my blood tests showed a high level of it. This link might be helpful.
