I was really scared too, but I didn’t have any pain at all, even when he did the biopsy. I tried to read a lot about it on the web first to prepare myself. The one thing I wasn’t prepared for was that he used this stuff to stop any bleeding of my cervix that might be caused by the biopsy. The medicine makes the blood clot so then I had a discharge for almost a week that was brown & looked like coffee grounds. But overall, it was not scary at all. Well everyone’s situation is different, but in my case it seems the strings were cut too short so when the CNM went to pull it out(after having it for a year & a half) she couldn’t grasp the strings. When the OB/Gyn tried a couple weeks later, there were no strings to be found at all, even with an instrument to help. So I ended up having to go into the OR, be anesthetized, & have it removed that way. I have a $2500 deductible for my insurance, so all of it will come out of my pocket! If you hate it enough to want it out after only a month, I say cut your losses & have it removed.   [End]

I had my Mirena out on Monday of this week. It was a huge ordeal. I never had any of the really horrible side effects described on this page. My biggest complaint was that I bled all month. So when I went in for my annual pap, I asked the CNM to remove it. She tried but couldn’t grasp the strings. She acted like it was no big deal & said she’d have to order a special instrument to pull it out & that she’d let me know when it came in. I just recently had the same experience. Don’t know if it had anything to do with the Mirena or not. I had one abnormal pap before I had the Mirena, but didn’t have to have a colposcopy or biopsy. This time I did. I was really scared but it didn’t hurt at all & I got my results back in a week & all was well! Good luck!!   [End]

Congrats! I’m glad they were able to get it out with minimal problems & that you can now relax & recover. I had an ultrasound last week to see where the Mirena is located (since they can’t find the strings). It’s still in my uterus thankfully, and I have an appointment next Monday to have it removed. I have to go to the OR & be put to sleep, but barring any complications, it should be an outpatient procedure. Wish me luck!   [End]

Geez, that’s awful!! Thankfully I had no pain at all during insertion. I actually had no complaints at all about Mirena until a few months ago when I got tired of bleeding all month. Then after the midwife tried to remove the Mirena & couldn’t reach the strings, I started having these uterine spasms that felt just like a baby kicking. I figured it had to do with the Mirena & started looking up side effects & found this page. Your IUD is in your intestines?? What symptoms did you have? I tried to have my Mirena removed at my last pap smear but she couldn’t grab onto the strings. I had to go back this week for a colposcopy for an abnormal pap smear & that doctor tried to get them out but couldn’t even find the strings! He says I’ll have to be put to sleep & have a hysteroscopy to find the strings & then pull it out. Needless to say, I’m pretty apprehensive about all this!!   [End]
