![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3375/2135/320/Cucumbers.2.jpg) Last
night I was devastated to realize that despite my dietary changes and
increased vitamins, my hair loss problem has obviously not let up. No
more wishful thingking- I'll have to get serious about the medical side
of things. I think the main reasons I have delayed doing this is that,
in addition to being a poor college student who can't afford a bunch of
medical tests, I'm really afraid of being told that a raw diet is not
good for me. My fear is well-founded because my raw diet is the only
thing that has taken away my compulsive overeating and out-of-control
bingeing and given me more of a life.
This might actually be a
good time for me to tackle this problem, however, since my weight
basically stalled (I've lost70 lbs, but since then have hovered between
65 and 70 lbs lost). If I were steadily losing weight, I'd be less
willing to change my diet for fear of regaining. Since I'm not losing
weight the way I was earlier on, I can let the weight issue be less of
a distraction and focus more on the other aspects of my health.
In
the end I have to remember that overall health is my real goal, not
just weight loss. It doesn't make sense to lose weight at the expense
of other areas of health - that would be crazy! But I live in a crazy
society that values weight loss over everything so I have to remind
myself to have common sense sometimes. Not only am I going to make a
better effort to see a doctor and nutritionist, but starting today I'm
going back to Sparkpeople.com to record my food intake. The Raw Odyssey
continues!

I used to have the perverted appetite you speak of, and after going raw, it really re-trained my stomach. If you spend the entire day eating denatured food, you will eat ALL DAY trying to get the proper nutrition, but it will never happen and you just keep gorging and filling up on food. But eating raw IS good because your getting most of the nutrients your body needs and that's when your stomach says, "OK, I've had enough." It doesn't do that on a SAD diet, it says, "Give me more, try some REAL food."
Have you been focusing on getting all the proper minerals from your diet? It could be a lack of certain nutrients that is keeping your hair from growing.
Horsetail grass is very high in silica and may help to re-grow your hair and nails if you have that problem.
Love your posts :)

Thank you for the advice. Maybe my blood tests will reveal whether I'm getting all the minerals I need. And you are certainly right about the "perverted appetite." I used to eat alllllll day. When I was losing weight on Weight Watchers I used to divide my food into 6 small meals a day because I always wanted to eat! But I don't feel that way now- although the stress of this hair problem and my money issues does make me want to eat more out of the desire to distract myself. I have to watch out so I don't fall back into a bad habit due to stress.
