    CELERY JUICE

    Traditionally Used For:

    Asthma Constipation
    Fluid Retention Gout
    Insomnia Kidney Problems
    Liver Problems Lung Problems
    Nervous Problems Weight Loss

    A Good Source Of:

    Sodium Chlorophyll

    Freshness Test:

Choose celery stalks that are firm and as dark as possible. Avoid limp celery stalks.

    Important:

    Celery is a natural diuretic.

    General:

Celery has a "salty" taste due to its natural organic sodium.

I once bought some organically grown celery straight from the organic farm. It was the darkest green celery I have ever seen in my life. The amount of chlorophyll in celery is directly related to how green the celery is. Anyway, the celery I bought was so green that one bite into the celery was all I could eat. The chlorophyll took over and I could feel the chlorophyll "biting" my tongue.

Unfortunately, most celery available today is lacking color. If possible, grow it yourself or buy it directly from an organic farm. You will be amazed at the difference in taste and ultimately nutrition. But if you do get really dark or darker green celery, do use less as a small amount goes a lot further.

    BROCCOLI JUICE

    Traditionally Used For:

    Cancer Prevention Cataract Prevention
    Immune System

    A Good Source Of:

    Calcium Sulfur Potassium
    Vitamin A Vitamin B-1

    Freshness Test:

The florets should be a purple color. Avoid florets that are yellow in color. Broccoli spoils fast, so only buy the amount you need.

    Important:

Due to the fact that Broccoli is a green juice, you will find it beneficial to have no more than about ¼ of your juice consisting of green juice.

    General:

Broccoli contains a lot of calcium and is a member of the cabbage family. One of the best vegetables to juice from a nutritional and health point of view.

    SWISS CHARD JUICE

    Traditionally Used For:

    Anemia Antioxidant
    Blood Pressure Bones
    Eyes Muscle Relaxant

    A Good Source Of:

    Iron Vitamin A Vitamin C

    Freshness Test:

I prefer smaller leaves as the larger the leaves, the more bitter the taste. Look for fresh looking leaving with no or minimal discoloration.

The Swiss Chard season is from June to August.

    Important:

Due to the fact that Swiss Chard is a green juice, you will find it beneficial to have no more than about ¼ of your juice consisting of green juice.

Swiss Chard is very concentrated and so I try not use to any more than 1 ounce in every 8 ounce glass.

    General:

I like to mix Swiss Chard with apple juice as I must admit, I don't like the taste of Swiss Chard too much. The apple helps make Swiss Chard taste a little more delicious.

Swiss Chard belongs to the same family as spinach and beets.

    GARLIC JUICE

    Traditionally Used For:

    Blood Pressure Immune System
    Skin Problems

    A Good Source Of:

    Calcium Iron Potassium
    Sodium Magnesium Vitamin B-1

    Freshness Test:

Look for plump garlic heads. If garlic is old, it will soft and usually it will have gone moldy.

You can grow your own garlic quite easily.

    Important:

Garlic is quite strong, as you probably already know. I personally never juice more than 1 clove of garlic.

    General:

Garlic is very high in sulfur which is an important nutrient for the skin. Garlic is also used traditionally as a natural anti-biotic. In fact, during World War I, medics used Garlic for anti-biotic purposes.

Many people have a little bit of Garlic when they have a cold.

I like to juice Garlic first and then juice other vegetables to help remove the smell from my juicer. I like to use parsley or other chlorophyll rich vegetables after juicing Garlic. The reason why is because chlorophyll helps to remove the smell of Garlic.

    BEET JUICE

    Traditionally Used For:

    Anemia Bladder Problems
    Circulatory Problems Eye Fatigue
    Kidneys Liver
    Lymphatic Circulation Menstrual Problems
    Menopause Skin Problems
    Tiredness Weight Loss Problems

    A Good Source Of:

    Calcium Chlorine Iron
    Sodium Sulfur Potassium
    Vitamin A Vitamin B-6 Choline

    Freshness Test:

Choose firm and smooth beets. Avoid beets that are either soft or shriveled. Some prefer beets that are small, some prefer medium size and some prefer large size. The size you choose is a personal preference.

    Important:

Beets are probably one of the most powerful vegetables available. Beets are known for causing both stools and urine to turn red and if this happens, don't be surprised.

Never drink beet juice by itself. Beet juice should always be mixed with other vegetables and/or apple juice. Pure beet juice (from the bulb or greens) can temporarily paralyze your vocal chords, make you break out in hives, increase your heart rate, cause chills or a fever.

Beets are best used in small amounts. I never use more than 1 to 2 ounces of beet juice (approximately ½ a small beet or ¼ a large beet).

Use moderately. Both the roots and greens are powerful cleansers of the body. Beets are said to really cleanse the blood and kidneys and this is why it is suggested you use beets moderately.

    General:

Beets have a very nice taste and I really enjoy both the color of beet juice and the flavor. But do make sure you realize that beets are a tremendously powerful vegetable.

Consider mixing beets with apples, cucumber, carrots, etc.

    General:

Beet greens contain nutrients not found inside the root and so juicing the greens is a nice idea, but do be careful in the amount you juice.

Consider mixing beets with apples, cucumber, carrots, etc.

    PARSLEY JUICE

    Traditionally Used For:

    Anemia Arthritis
    Bladder Problems Circulation
    Endocrine System Eye Problems
    Kidneys Liver
    Prostate Skin
    Urinary Tract Weight Loss

    A Good Source Of:

    Calcium Magnesium Phosphorus
    Potassium Sodium Sulfur
    Vitamin A Vitamin C Chlorophyll

    Freshness Test:

Parsley is easily grown by yourself. It grows without any special care or attention. If you have a garden, simply throw some seed down and Parsley will magically grow.

Look for dark green leaves. The darker the leaves, the more chlorophyll there is.

    Important:

Due to the fact that Parsley is a green juice, you will find it beneficial to have no more than about ¼ of your juice consisting of green juice.

Parsley is a natural diuretic also. Parsley should never be drunk by itself as it is simply too powerful.

Parsley is very concentrated and so I try not use to any more than 1 ounce in every 8 ounce glass.

    General:

Most people have a certain vegetable that they have always liked. For me, it has always been parsley. Ever since a child, this is one vegetable that I could never get enough of. As a child, we used to grow parsley on the windowsill, unfortunately, I ate it all before the parsley could fully mature!

    KALE JUICE

    Traditionally Used For:

    Anemia Asthma
    Arthritis Circulation
    Eye Problems Hair Loss
    Hay Fever Impotence
    Liver Skin Problems
    Ulcers Weight Loss

    A Good Source Of:

    Calcium Iron Vitamin A
    Chlorophyll

    Freshness Test:

Kale is best in the spring or fall. Look for firm Kale leaves.

    Important:

Due to the fact that Kale is a green juice, you will find it beneficial to have no more than about ¼ of your juice consisting of green juice.

    General:

Kale can have a powerful taste, although it's definitely a vegetable worth juicing to its high chlorophyll content. You can grow Kale quiet easily yourself.

Kale is very high in calcium and makes an excellent calcium alternative.

    SPINACH JUICE

    Traditionally Used For:

    Anemia Circulation
    Colitis Constipation
    Eyes Kidneys
    Liver Lymph System
    Nervous System Skin Problems
    Poor Digestion Thyroid Glands

    A Good Source Of:

    Calcium Iron Magnesium
    Phosphorus Potassium Sodium
    Vitamin A B Complex Chlorophyll

    Freshness Test:

Look for dark green leaves. The darker the color, the more nutrients.

    Important:

Due to the fact that Spinach is a green juice, you will find it beneficial to have no more than about ¼ of your juice consisting of green juice.

Spinach is a natural laxative and when consumer in larger amounts, it may be too much of a laxative.

Use Spinach in moderation. Spinach, although a good vegetable from a nutritional point of view, is also rich in oxalic acid. Oxalic acid requires exercise for it to be metabolized. If you get too much oxalic acid, then your body will begin to actually loose nutrients.

For most people, having Spinach juice once or twice a week is enough. For specific dietary advice, consult your medical doctor, nutritionist or naturopath.

    General:

Popeye's favorite drink isn't necessarily mine. I actually prefer other green leafy vegetables. Spinach has both negative and positive benefits, hence I simply prefer to use vegetables that provide more positives. It's a personal choice though whether you juice Spinach or not.
