Today has had its shares of ups and downs. Last night was terrible with excruciating pain that lasted for over ten hours. I did not get to sleep until early this morning. The morning was not too bad, I was weak and had trouble even standing at first. Later, I used the walker and made it to the mailbox. The entire trip was only a few hundred feet, but that is the longest distance I've walked in almost a month. I stayed outside and cleaned up some trash the puppies scattered and later own cleaned out my car that I've nicknamed "pigpen on wheels". My doctor is kind enough to go get the car and bring it around to the door so I don't have to walk so far after therapy, but I was pretty embarrassed to have anyone see inside.

The mail had some elements I will be adding to the diet and therapy side of my healing process. I finally got my book by Louise Hay called "Heal Your Body" it is full of probable emotional reasons for diseases and affirmations to help us overcome
negative thinking and staying in the past. I also got a CD by Hay called "Anger Releasing". It seems the emotional issues behind my back problems and chronic pain all deal with lack of love and love hunger, fear and old anger and resentment. I can certainly see where this is true. I did not have a happy childhood, including emotional, physical and some sexua| abuse. I have been trying to remember without feeling angry lately but its been hard to relive years of feeling not good enough, a lot of old doubts, fears, and a little anger have come to the surface. Hopefully, by dealing with the emotional and spiritual issues behind this problem will enhance the efforts of physical healing. I'm not putting this very well, but I hope it makes sense. Things are rarely as simple as they seem on the surface. I hope I have the courage to follow through with this. In many ways I can see why most people would rather have medication or surgery rather than have to dig so deeply in hopes of finding a real and lasting healing.

      Dear hopinso :)

I am going to recommend you read this website and many others like it. Just google--> vitamin C spine

A long time ago, I fell off of a dam and landed on my back. I ended up with 3 ruptured disc and bone fragments. Having to use a cane or walker, and not being able to even stand very long wherever I went, and using the motorized scooters at the stores. At times I would be completely bedridden in constant agony, with no comfortable position and any movement of my body hurt so bad I screamed.
I have been through chiropractic, laser, accupuncture and heating pad treatments with very little improvements.

I was never a believer in vitamin C until I tried it not long ago. There has been dramatic results for me.
I still have pain and stiffness when I get up in the morning, but it eases off after a few minutes of sitting in a chair, then I am able to walk without any walker or cane, and no more days of being bedridden. Now I take mega doses of vitamine C, and will be happy to do so the rest of my life.
Most of all, I love the cheap price of vitamin C !! less than $2

I don't know what will work for you but, you will never know if something will or will not work unless you try.

Whatever treatments you decide to try, I will keep you in prayer.

P.S: I know how constant pain can be depressing. Try to replace the depressing moments with positive thoughts of things that are in this world and above that are beautiful and loving. Even think about how beautiful and loving those puppies are for a moment :)

James Greenwood, Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at Baylor University's College of Medicine in the 1960's reported 250mg of ascorbic acid four times a day for patients with vertebral-disc problems gave considerable relief. If C supplementation was discontinued, muscle soreness and pain returned. Summarizing his experience with more than 500 patients, Dr. Greenwood said " a significant percentage with early disk lesions were able to avoid surgery." and "the number of reoperations on the same patient for recurrence at the same level or a new disk lesion at a different level was greatly reduced."

This positive experience is due to the vitamin C building up the spinal disc.

A spinal disc is somewhat like a filled doughnut. As shown in the drawing below (please visit the Alabama Back Institute, source of the drawing below for more information), the exterior portion, called Annulus Fibrosus is a tough, grissel-like material. Inside this is a much softer cushioning substance called the Nucleus Pulposus. Due to the wear and tear that these discs endure combined with the loss of toughness of the exterior, AF, due to chronic vitamin C deficiency, a hole may develop allowing the soft interior NP substance to be pushed out. The drawing shows how this can happen. When this happens and the squished out portion touches the nerve as shown, pain results and let me tell you it can be excruciating!

Vitamin C is required for the proper formation of the ground substance or extra-cellular matrix that gives tissues their structural integrity (see What C Does). The constant stress on the spinal disc requires that tissues of the Annulus Fibrosus be constantly replaced. The name of this structure, Fibrosus, references the structural fibers that make it tough. These fibers absolutely do not form properly without adequate vitamin C. I read about a study (I can't seem to find it) that concluded that chronic vitamin C deficiency was the leading cause of disc herniations, degenerative spine or Osteoporosis.

Almost all chronic back problems have a relationship to vitamin C deficiency due to C's requirement for proper tissue generation. Most soreness and pain associated with exercise, most disc herniations and even osteoporosis could be all but eliminated with proper nutrition of which vitamin C is the foundation.

He never promised that the cross would not get heavy
And the hill would not be hard to climb
He never offered our victories without fighting
But he said help would always come in time
Just remember when you're standing in the valley of decision
And the adversary says give in
Just hold on, our Lord will show up again

Thanks White Tiger. I always enjoy your posts, in fact, I think with your knowledge of herbs and supplements you could have your own forum. Owen suggested I take Vitamin C for my spine problems and sent me some to get started. Right now I generally take 6-10 grams of sodium ascorbate and also some ascorbic acid that is in the Disc-Gard supplement from my doctor. I am also using raw apple cider vinegar and cayenne, although I went off of that a few days to see if it was causing gastric distress.
I do appreciate your prayers too. This has been a huge test of faith and I have not always come out victorious. As I've written, I am not only hoping and praying for physical healing, but emotional and spiritual healing as well.
