Deep in Dixie @ Tifton, GA....   Came down to visit some relatives, and go to a local amusement park.....  Both were great and we had an enjoyable time....

But Thursday evening ran into some of the nicest young ladies getting on the elevator at the hotel...   They were beautiful and very talented young ladies.  They  were some of the lovely contestants for the 2005;  Miss Georgia Forestry Pageant being held here...

They were Representatives from (49) forty nine of the counties in Ga....  Having been a city slicker, most of my adult life if was refreshing to talk and learn more about some of the actives down in Dixie...  For a complete story on this activity go to www.missgaforestry.com.....   We will discuss some of the different items these young ladies have to go through in the contest...

This was not your Hollywood, brainless beauty babe constest.....  It is a reflection on the intelligence and quick wittiness of these southern belles....  These GRITS, {for the definition refer to previous issue of this blog} were I think a perfect example of what it means to be raised in Dixie...  They come from all walks of life, they are all true ladies, their dress and manners were excellent.... I never had any daughters but if I had anyone of these girls I met, she would have made me proud.....

They each had to to an individual interview which counts for 50%, which required them to be able not only to answer searching questions about Georgia forestry, but many common sense items as well...

Example of some of the questions:

" Which do you feel is more important Conservation or Preparation ? "

" Would you rather assist in or start your own program for the development  of resources? "

" How does the development of your talent(s) help you carry out your duties in life?"

Just to name a few....  Then there was 25% based on a one minute speech on their goals, ideas on life... Where they have to go before five (5) individual judges, one at a time...  i.e. Five times same presentation...   One of the young ladies presented   " Why people are not just accepted for who they are, even if they are handicapped? "

The final 25% was the Evening Gown competetion, Saturday nite and the crowing of the new 2005 Queen for Miss GA Forestry....  I met and have a photo of the current 2004 Miss GA forestery...  A very beautiful and talented  young woman, attending the U. of Georgia, Athens.. All of these young women that I met were definitely some of the best and finest the world and the south has to offer...

The program points out the desire and training these young women have gone through for those were searching questions they had to answer....  Folks; some of which we might take to task in our own lives... It never hurts to put the light of truth on and search out our own lives...  These young women were very focused and prepared to face not only the review board board, but the world...  Such training and dedication I have seldom seen, among the young people of today....  Thank you ladies, for helping to show us the way...

They are certainly part of the pride of the modern Dixie.... Thank you again Ladies..
