Round-up of Body/Breath Odor Causes

Info I've accumulated over the past couple years. Hope it's useful for somebody out there...

SYSTEMATIC CANDIDA YEAST INFECTION
Some people with systemic yeast conditions (Candida) carry a "beer" smell since yeast can turn sugar into alcohol in their bodies very rapidly. In my Candida case I thought it a "smoky" smell, with no exposure to tobacco smoke (some beers are "smoky," so close enough I guess...).

SODIUM SELENITE
Many vitamin supplements such as Centrum include sodium selenite as a source of the mineral selenium. Per Prevention Magazine, sodium selenite can cause a "garlicky" skin odor at higher doses. Per the magazine, the lower doses of around 25 mcg shouldn't be a problem, but I've noticed that some formulas contain several times this amount. Vitamin C can also hinder absorption of selenium within sodium selenite. Selenomethionine and selenium yeast are the preferred forms.

GARLIC, VITAMIN E
File this under, "Well, duh!" Since garlic is high in sulfur, substantial consumption of ANY type of garlic can cause a sulfur smell to the skin. The "low odor" pills are simply enteric-coated, meaning they don't dissolve until past the stomach, possibly reducing garlic breath, but having no impact on intestinal absorption, leaving bloodstream and skin delivery intact. And, whether accurate or not, my friend told me that consuming larger amounts of vitamin E capsules can result in an Vit E oil smell to the skin.

CHLOROPHYLL VERSUS MAGNESIUM PILLS
This dude is adamant that chlorophyll, if effective for the breath or body (sometimes neither), is so strictly due to the magnesium content. "Chlorophyllin is defined by the Merck Index as sodium magnesium chlorophyllin...This study left us convinced that chlorophyll is a good natural deodorizer, but only in the magnesium-containing form and only because of the magnesium. In other words, for the deodorizing effect you might as well use the (cheaper) magnesium (pills) without the sodium and the green pigment."

People who have damaged livers can also develop body odor that smells like fish. Damage to the liver can destroy the chemical that breaks down choline."
