The show focused not only on big country music acts, but also those who work behind the scenes in the industry like Ross Copperman, the ACM Songwriter of the Year who said he was blown away by the honor.

Copperman said he had a tip for songwriters in town.

"Show up every day and write 15 songs a week. That's what I've done the past 10 years," he said.

It's advice that's worked for him. He's had numerous #1 hits over the years.

As the stars walked the red carpet, they got mentally prepared for special performances like tributes to Glen Campbell and many other legends.

The show will be broadcast on TV for the first year in it's 10 year history. Stars said they're happy the folks behind the camera are getting the recognition they deserve.

"It's nice for all of our fans to get to witness producers and songwriters and booking agents and people that really work behind the scenes that really are fully responsible for the reason we get to tour and it be successful," said Thomas Rhett.

"Tonight is all about celebrating those whose faces are not on the album covers. It's about the musicians who bring music to life, it's about the songwriters," said Kimberly Perry from The Band Perry.

The award show was taped, but will air in a 2-hour special next Friday on NewsChannel 5 at 8 p.m.
