My husband had 3 strokes and we found out he was diabetic about 12 years ago. For 8 months I put him on the diet they gave me for him. He was in no position to cheat. For 8 months every 3 weeks his blood work was worse. So was he.
It hit me that the healthy type diet that failed me for decades was failing him. I starved myself fat on 1200 low fat, high fiber calories a day for decades.
I always had the hunger shakes. Even as a kid. Ate every 2 hours, like they said too. Had a very active job. Went to the gym. Barely fit into a size 18. Always hungry
I read Good Calories, Bad Calories. Chose the old British diet in the prologue. Read The Oiling of America. Threw out all lamp oil.
Two weeks later my husband had blood work.
First of many improvements for him. Eleven years later he has blood work once a year. Hard to tell he ever had strokes.
Several months after the change a stranger understood him. I went from size 18 to 8. Have not had the hunger shakes since.
I can get busy and forget to eat 8, 10 or 12 hours. Might get hungry, but no horrible shakes.
