As far as I know you can take Miralax. It works differently then standard stool softeners, it increases the amount of water in your bowels, so its not habit forming. Thats what my dr told me when I had to give it to my 2 yr old.

Hi Meat27, congrats to you on the pregnancy! I'm sorry I don't really have any advice for the constipation problem. It wasn't really an issue for me with either one of my pregnancies. But, I am curious, are you still experiencing any of the symptoms that you were post-removal since conceiving? I'm just wondering how the hormonal fluctuation and changes with pregnancy would affect the post-Mirena symptoms. Good luck with your problem and I hope you have a healthy and enjoyable pregnancy.

I also have had problems with constipation and someone suggested that I take magnesium every day. The side effect of too much magnesium is bowel softner/constipation relief. Magensium is water soluable, so any other excess of it is absorbed into your body. What a relief! after taking it for a few days, I have now become regular! It has been great.

The iron from your prenatal vitamins can cause constipation as well as dairy products, which you're probably taking more of since becoming pregnant. Watermelon is in season and is like 90% water. My sisters and I eat a lot of it during the summer months especially when we're dehydrated and become constipated as a result. It won't take long to get through your system. There are also the p fruits- peaches, pears, plums, and prunes, to get your bowels moving. The high amounts of water in the fruits should help to soften what needs to come out. Coffee is a good stimulant if you're not caffeine free.

During pregnancy I highly recommend eating lots of fruits and drinking adequate amounts of non-carbonated liquids like water and natural non-sweetened juices. I agree with the above recommendation that Watermelon is excellent in preventing constipation.

But if it gets to the point where you need assistance moving your bowels, a time tested safe and natural way to relieve constipation during pregnancy is a gentle old-fashioned cleansing enema. Not the small disposable chemical squeeze enemas they sell in drugstores and supermarkets, but an enema using warm water from an enema bag.

Try to take at least a quart, but better, 3 pints of warm water (103 degrees F at preparation time). I would not recommend letting yourself go more than 48 hrs without a BM, but preferably once a day.

If you have never had an enema before or would like more information, please follow up here or email me. An enema properly administered can be practically without discomfort if taken before you are too constipated. Enemas are only uncomfortable when you are severely constipated, or if you hang the bag too high and let the water in too fast, or if the water temperature is too hot or too cold.

I know your post is from 10 years ago and you're no longer pregnant but for any pregnant woman experiencing this problem,
Make Pitaya smoothies or dragon fruit.
You will be smooth and you will have iron for yourself and the baby and antioxidants.
Pitaya also known as dragon fruit smoothie packets which I buy from the health food store has kept me smooth and regular.

my recipe
2 organic pitaya frozen packets
1/2 cup organic raspberry and a little water or coconut water in the nutribullet or blender
drink it everyday, no pregnancy constipation.
