Over the last 6 months, our 2 yr old 110 lb German Shepard mix has contracted giardia 3 times, treated with
Antibiotics from vet. The last two days his bowel movements have been VERY watery. I hope he doesn't have giardia again. We also have a cat, but she doesn't seem to have giardia - stool sample at vet was negative. Besides, her litter box is in a room where the dog does not go into, and he is not exposed directly to the litter box.
We had our water tested - negative for giardia. We have cleaned our house top to bottom - we even used Lysol on every imaginable surface - but our baby still ends up with diarrhea (hopefully not giardia again). We have racked up $1500.00 in vet bills over the last 6 months, and we can't afford it anymore.
The diarrhea is not bloody - just super runny, sometimes looks like raw egg whites. We have not changed his food or any other habits. We keep our yard picked up from pet waste, and do not let him roam around outside without us being right there (don't want him to eat anything he shouldn't, and if we turn our backs for one minute he's always eating something).
Two questions:
1) I can't figure out what the source is in our home for the giardia. Any thoughts?
2) Is there anything over-the-counter that I can give my dog for the chronic diarrhea (possibly giardia)?
