I was playing basketball and got an elbow to my left ear. Immediately everything sounded tinny and far away. It was as though a filter was removing all low frequencies. In addition, it seems as though a particular high frequency range is now exagerated. A bouncing basketball now sounds like a tap instead of a thud. A car door closing now sounds like a click. When people begin to talk loudly in a room it begins to distort and bleed together.
This was 5 nights ago and no change. I went to my ear doctor the following morning. They checked my hearing (with earplugs) and said my hearing was identical to the last time I was checked. I found that almost impossible to believe. The doctor also looked into my ears with a microscope and saw no drum damage. He told me to take Sudafed for two weeks and call him if it isn't better. I got the feeling he didn't really take me too seriously.
The distressing thing is I am already about 80% deaf in my right ear - this was my good ear!
Any ideas? Anyone else experience this? Thanks.
